Zanzibar beach – the name says it all. Only 15 minutes by plane from Dar es salaam,mainland lies the wonderfully sleepy island of Zanzibar. The obvious beach tack-on to a safari in mainland Tanzania, Zanzibar beach is East Africa’s finest beach destination surrounded by coral reefs with numerous idyllic beaches lined by huge sweeping palm trees.

Though most visitors spend a night or two in Zanzibar’s Stone Town, it is the beaches, snorkeling and diving that attract people to Zanzibar’s shores, and with an ever increasing tourist trade, it is remarkable.

Zanzibar is much larger than one might expect; driving from top to bottom takes about two hours. Stone Town and the airport are found on the Western edge, with a transfer from any beach lodge taking about an hour. Stone Town

Explore Stone Town with its narrow alleyways, colourful markets and intricately carved wooden doors. Visit the fascinating attractions such as the House of Wonders (once the sultan’s residence), the old fort and the Palace Museum.

Jozani Forest

Jozani Forest is the island’s only national park and its largest wooded area. Years ago, it was said that leopards could be found walking in the shadow of the forest canopies. Today, Jozani is home to the striking red colobus and blue Sykes’ monkey.

Prison Island

Nice little boat ride out to the island, water very choppy . The water is beautiful when you get out to the island it would be great to swim. Its very interesting to see the turtles, of so many ages and sizes. is among the most affordable places in Zanzibar

Forodhani Night Market

Each evening as the sun sets, Forodhani transforms into an open-air food market. Skip the fish kebabs and head straight to the vendors selling urojo, a thick mango-and-tamarind soup served alongside chickpea fritters, boiled potatoes, cassava flakes, chutney, and as much hot sauce as you dare. Follow it up with hand-pressed sugarcane juice with ginger and lime.

Water Sports

Zanzibar has a host of exciting water sports for visitors to experience. Guests can kitesurf in clear, shallow waters or take to the skies and enjoy sweeping views of Nungwi and Kendwa beaches while parasailing. Try your hand at hiring a jet ski and whizzing through the lagoons.Many sports offer both group lessons or private classes, with all the equipment available for rent.

Spice Tour

A visit to a spice plantation offers visitors the chance to learn how some of the most popular spices are grown. Guests also learn about the traditional uses of plants and flowers such as the lipstick tree and the henna bush. The Spice Island still earns its nickname, with a crop of delicacies such as cinnamon, vanilla and cloves all grown on the island.
